Course for Edexcel/OCR/AQA Further Pure Mathematics 1 (FP1)

Topics Covered:
1. Complex Numbers
-Sum, product and quotient of complex numbers.
-Complex solutions of quadratic equations with real coefficients.
-Conjugate complex roots of polynomial equations with real coefficients. |
2. Numerical Solution of Equations
-interval bisection
-linear interpolation
-the Newton-Raphson process |
3. Coordinate Systems
-Cartesian equations for the parabola and rectangular hyperbola.
-The focus-directrix property of the parabola.
-Tangents and normals to these curves. |
4. Matrix Algebra
-Addition, subtraction, multiplication of matrices
-Inverse of 2 × 2 matrices
-Combinations of transformations |
5. Series
-Summation of simple finite series |
6. Mathematical Induction |
Note that the topics would be adjusted due to various exam boards
Teaching Approaches:
This course would focus on teaching past exam paper solving skills. To facilitate teaching and learning, notes and assignments would be provided
Target students:
This course is designed for students taking FP1
